Salam M. Mustapha, an aspiring National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has withdrawn from the contest, citing circumstances beyond his control that have made it impossible for him to continue with his candidature.
In a letter dated September 9, 2026, and addressed to the Chairman of the NPP National Officers Elections Committee, Mustapha formally communicated his decision to pull out of the race.
He described the decision as a difficult one, particularly because of the “encouragement, goodwill and overwhelming support” he had received from party members, delegates, colleagues and well-wishers across the country.
However, he said circumstances beyond his control had left him unable to continue his campaign for the position of National Organiser.
“However, due to circumstances beyond my control, I am unable to continue with my candidature,” he stated.
Mustapha did not disclose the specific circumstances that influenced his decision to withdraw, but stressed that his exit from the contest should not be interpreted as a weakening of his commitment to the NPP or its ideals.
He reaffirmed his commitment to the party, saying he would continue to contribute to its unity, rebuilding and electoral success.
He also pledged his support for former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, stating that he would continue working to help make him the next President of Ghana.
The former candidate further appealed to his supporters to accept his decision in good faith and remain united in the larger interest of the party.
“Political positions may come and go, but our commitment to the NPP and the future of our Party must remain greater than any individual ambition,” he said.
Mustapha also wished the other candidates participating in the NPP’s internal electoral process well, expressing hope that their actions and choices would strengthen the party and position it for future electoral victory.
He concluded his withdrawal letter by quoting his favourite Bible verse, Psalm 23, saying: “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want…”
His withdrawal now marks a significant change in the NPP’s ongoing internal contest for the position of National Organiser, although Mustapha has made it clear that his decision to leave the race does not mean an end to his political commitment to the party.
