Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh has criticised the inability to meet his colleague, Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, during a visit to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), where the MP is being held over an ongoing investigation.
The Nsawam-Adoagyiri MP expressed his disappointment after visiting EOCO’s premises to check on Mr Baffour Awuah but leaving without seeing him.
“I didn’t expect this under President Mahama,” he said as he left the premises.
Mr Baffour Awuah voluntarily reported to EOCO on Thursday, October 1, following an arrest warrant issued by the Accra High Court.
He was subsequently detained as investigators continued questioning him over transactions involving SIC Life Savings and Loans.
His lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea, has indicated that the questioning is expected to continue on Friday, October 2.
The Minority has called for the MP’s immediate release, while maintaining that it does not intend to interfere with the ongoing investigation.
Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has also stressed that no one is above the law, including EOCO, but raised concerns about the treatment of the MP.
