In an advisory issued on Saturday, October 10, 2026, the mission said demonstrations had been reported in the central business districts of Johannesburg and Durban, with protesters in Johannesburg expected to converge on the Constitutional Court.
It warned that the protests could lead to traffic disruptions, road closures, restricted movement and possible confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement authorities.
The High Commission advised Ghanaians to avoid protest locations and large gatherings, limit non-essential travel to affected central business districts, and use alternative routes where necessary.
It also urged nationals to monitor local news, traffic updates and security advisories from the South African Police Service and municipal authorities.
The mission further advised Ghanaians to avoid confrontations, remain in contact with family members and community leaders, and report threats, intimidation or violence to the nearest police station.
Nationals requiring consular assistance have been asked to notify the High Commission of any security-related incidents affecting them.
The mission also urged the Ghanaian community to remain calm, comply with lawful instructions from South African security authorities and avoid circulating unverified information that could cause unnecessary panic.
